You Never Know When

Eddie and I were busy cleaning up the mess in front our church left by the road crew.  We were cutting away what was left of eighteen trees cut down two widen the road, when I looked up to see an older gentleman named Charlie. He asked if he could have a few chunks of wood to carve on. After he told me how big, I cut them to his chosen sizes, then Eddie loaded them in his car. We talked for awhile about the trees and what he was going to carve. When he mentioned he had built a few bows, I expressed that I would like to see them some time. He really beamed a big smile and said "come on over when you're done".
An hour later we were in his driveway. He met us at the door and said "come in!" We were covered with sawdust so I suggested using another door to keep the mess down. He gladly led us on the "tour". When we hit the basement I was on familiar territory.  It was just like Dad's old shop- different areas for different projects. First was the carving area then the planning area. Next was tool bin then there was a big desk with an over head light. A little dust had settled on the desk, but what caught my eye was the two quivers filled with arrows fletched with barred feathers.  They were older than me!  Charlie had made them in 1950. They were all straight as the day they were made. He then reached into the comer and retrieved an armload of bows he had built. What a treasure!  As he talked about each one his eyes danced with pride.  When I asked about the last time he shot he just laughed "not in a while".  After a couple hours we had to leave but it was quite a "tour".  I hope to go back with a camera next time.
The Bible tells us to be ready at all times and to Pray without ceasing.  As Tar Hollow is few months off yet, I challenge you to Pray about what will happen there so we will be ready when we are given the opportunity.  That's the view from here.
